Our Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Commitment

CBG understands that the construction industry has a huge impact both on the environment and communities. Through our Environmental Management System and Carbon Reduction Strategy we examine the impact of our activities and implement minimisation and mitigation measures.

In addition, we aim to have a positive impact on the local communities within which we operate, and maximise our activities that create social value.

In-line with the ambitions of the Construction Playbook we collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve our environmental and social value objectives. This includes voluntary groups, charitable / social enterprises etc.

We promote opportunities for our staff, supply chain and all those engaged in our business activities to grow and improve through personal development. This includes actively promoting diversity through targeting opportunities for under-represented groups. We engage with educational programmes and institutions to promote our industry and the opportunities for career development therein.

We aim to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) in our supply chain with KPI’s in place to measure and monitor SME engagement. We understand the importance of the SME supply chain in fostering and growing the identity and financial stability of the local community. With SME’s accounting for three fifths of the UK employment we aim to support SME innovation, scale up, resilience and economic development.

CBG is at the forefront of supporting and managing the mental health requirements of our staff, supply chain and all those who are affected by our work. Those within the construction industry are at higher risk of mental health issues. Through a series of campaigns and support initiatives we ensure our staff have the tools they need for positive mental health, and where additional support can be found in times of need.

CBG is committed to minimising our impact on the environment. The CIOB has identified that globally the build environment generates 30% of the total GHG’s and uses 32% of the worlds natural resources. Our Environmental Management Plans detail how we will minimise this impact on a project-by-project basis, examining our carbon emissions and materials procurement implementing the principles of the circular economy. We have a documented Carbon Reduction Strategy which details our commitment and timescale to becoming a low or zero carbon business.
